10 day or 4 day Sea Kayak Leader trainining.

Training course for leader aspirants at sea kayak award or coastal sea kayak award level, to learn about leading and guiding others, develop their personal skills and seamanship in moderate conditions:

  • Theoretical elements; weather forecast interpretation, tidal planning, swell, surf and sea-state matter, navigation and trip planning, as well as efficient briefing methods, group information gathering, venue choice. (4 and 10 day course)
  • Practical Navigation. (4 and 10 day course)
  • Understanding and bench-marking of different moderate environments incl. surf, rock gardens, wind and tidal features. Developing of your personal paddling skills, safety and rescue techniques. (4 and 10 day course)
  • Risk and incident management, decision making, equipment failure, participant focused leadership, coaching on the move and what kit to bring. (4 and 10 day course)
  • A half day of coasteering along the coast of Anglesey to help understand, and get more comfortable with swimming in close proximity to rocks and rocky landings. (incl. 10 day course)
  • 2 day Outdoor First Aid Training incl. certification (incl. in 10 day course)
  • The Guide module of this course will include a 1-2 night overnight trip (weather dependent). Expedition skills, leadership, route finding, customer experience, camp skills and etiquette. (incl. in 10 day course)
  • RNLI excersise (incl. in 10 day course)

Throughout the course we will also cover elements of the Sea kayak Safety and Rescue Award and Coastal Sea Kayak Award. 

Accommodation and food are not included, but we recomend to book your stay with Anglesey Outdoors.This would be a great opportunity for a club team, a group of peers as well as individuals. 

Note: You will not gain the Sea Kayak Leader Award as there should to be consolidation period after the training to practice what has been learned.

Assessment:

All Sea Kayak Leaders will require:

  • Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning OR BCAB eLearning modules, OR Online Seakayaking modules
  • Valid (within 3 years) British Canoeing recognised 16hr first aid award
  • Valid (within 3 years) Safeguarding training
  • British Canoeing Membership
  • Assessment Registration
